Mark is actively involved with the daily operations of the business and oversees the kitchen and many events on site.

His passion for catering and hospitality gained momentum from a young age at school and some of his most valuable skills were learnt whilst training at the Hyatt hotel in the fine dining room for 3 years and then at the renown Walters Wine Bar for another 3 years.

His knowledge, experience and hands on approach will help you to create the perfect function featuring the freshest seasonal food and finest service.

FAQ’s

What is the latest I can confirm my final numbers

  • Final numbers need to be confirmed 3 working days prior as per table below so we can place orders with our suppliers, prepare and print summary sheets for your event .
  • Please allow an extra day if there is a public holiday within the 3 day window.
  • If something significant changes that you are aware of in the weeks prior to your event, please let us know E.g. originally expected 100 guests and your numbers have increased to 130 and look like they will go up a little more.

What time do you arrive on-site

  • Carvery – generally we arrive 30 mins prior to your service time – this may vary if your access is difficult
  • BBQ and finger food functions – we usually arrive 60 mins prior to your service time.

How long do you serve for

  • BBQ and Spit Roast buffet meals are served over 1 hour – if you require a longer serve a small additional labour fee may apply
  • Finger food is generally served over 2 hours for 10 items – being equivalent to a main course

What do you need to cater a BBQ

  • We need to be able to unload the BBQ from our van and wheel it into place over a flat surface – please advise us in advance if you have difficult access and we can look at the options ( for example a smaller bbq which can be carried up steps and across gravel and brick pathways)
  • Protection from the elements – shelter from the wind and rain and shade from the sun – we can provide a marquee or other shade for a small additional fee
  • If we are cooking at night we need adequate lighting over the BBQ and buffet

What facilities do you need to cater a finger food function

  • We require access to a kitchen or preparation area that is well ventilated. If you don’t have an oven we can hire one for a small fee

What if my service time changes

  • Please let us know as soon as you are aware so we can alter our staff rosters and update your booking. We may not be able to change the serve time by more than 15 minutes within the two working days prior to your event. Every effort will be made of course but no guarantees

Do you clean up afterwards

  • We offer seconds from the buffet, collect the plates, cutlery, napkins from your guests and we transfer the left-over food from our platters to your platters & dishes. Then we pack up the buffet, plates, cutlery, platters etc. up and take it back to our commercial kitchen for cleaning. Our health registered food vans are not permitted to remove rubbish from an event

Can you supply bar staff

  • We can supply RSA qualified bar staff to serve your guests at an hourly rate.
  • We can also provide a bar package inclusive of glasses, ice, drinks tubs, bottle openers and staff to set up and pack down. This option allows you to bring your alcohol and we do the rest!!

What access do you require?

  • We require good access by parking our van as close as possible to your event.
  • Our staff use trolleys to load goods in and out where possible

Do you need cover from the weather?

  • Protection from the elements – shelter from the wind and rain and shade from the sun.

How do I make a booking?

  • You may call to book and we also require a completed booking form by email, fax or post as this gives us the information required to lock your booking into our catering calendar – particularly address, serving time, estimated guest numbers, and menu selections
  • Final guest numbers, dietaries etc. are required by us 3 working days prior to your event

When do I need to confirm my menu selections by

  • We require menu selections (e.g. salad choices, finger food items) at least one week prior to your event.

Is the price quoted an all-inclusive price?

  • Our prices quoted are inclusive of GST, unless clearly noted as plus gst

Can I provide my own cake and have you cut it

  • We can provide a cake cutting service, price upon request

Do I need to pay a deposit

  • A deposit, based on a minimum of 25% of total quotation costs, may be required to confirm your booking in our calendar. If so, we will generate and email an invoice to you.

What is your cancellation policy, in case my function is cancelled

If the booking is to be cancelled, the following conditions will apply with our discretion
1. All cancellations must be received in writing
2. If cancellation occurs more than 28 days prior to the event date, 100% of the deposit will be transferred to your next function with us or refunded with our discretion
3. If cancellation is received 28 to 7 days prior to the event date, the cancellation fee will consist of the total deposit.
4 If cancellation is received 7 days prior to your function or less, the cancellation fee will consist of the total of the deposit and an additional 25% of the value of the original quotation
5. If a cancellation is received within 48 hours of the event the cancellation fee will consist of 75 % of the total amount of the event

What payment methods do you offer

  • Full payment is required on the day or before the event unless agreed for other arrangements . Credit card payments over $ 500 will incur a 1 % merchant and processing fee for VISA and MASTERCARD. Sorry we no longer accept payment by AMEX card

Can I meet the Spitting Image Catering team before I book

  • Yes by all means … we have a fabulous kitchen and boardroom perfect for chatting about your special event

Do you do formal tastings

  • No sorry we don’t offer formal tastings but you are welcome to make a time and view our kitchen in production and sample some of the food as its being made

Menus offers a variety of great options from finger food to BBQ spreads (love the slow roasted lamb shoulder). A huge big thank you to Mark, Melissa and your great staff at Spitting Image for helping to make OIGFC Auction Dinner Dance at Collingwood Town Hall last Saturday such a great success. Nearly 200 people looked after with a menu of pre dinner drinks & several canapés, a choice of two mains, a desert platter, a cheese platter tea and coffee. Also our vegetarians, G.F. and F.I. were catered for. The tables looked great and silver ice buckets were a great finishing touch. We had many compliments on the delicious finger food and a lot of ladies loved the chicken main and especially loved the desert platter. You do such a great job of catering for our home games every season and I'm sure the committee will be wanting you to do our future functions. Nearly 200 people and no complaints says it all. We used Spitting image catering for a 60th birthday on Sat 16.1.2016 we were so impressed with the meat and salads would highly recommend Spitting Image for all your catering needs. I arranged all the catering on the the phone plus emails from the Snowy Mountains to have the party in Melbourne, i had lots of chat with Melissa yes i was worried as well that something may go wrong,she assured me all would be great.
